Q. WHY DO PEOPLE DECIDE TO BUILD WITH STEEL?
A. Steel is a far better product, especially if your focus is on long term investment. The advantages are that it’s very light and yet very strong, it’s always straight, it is non-combustible, it’s impervious to termites and other destructive borer proof and it will not shrink or warp. Steel framing has the durability and the structural integrity to easily outlive the life of your building. In any other industry if strength and integrity is required they use STEEL, not timber. It is perfect product for frame work.
Carpenters love timber because that’s what they know. A carpenter will tell you that timber is better, but upon analysis, that opinion is more often than not based on emotional factors. It’s true that a carpenter loves timber like a restaurant chef loves his preferred cooking ingredients.

Q. WHO IS ABLE TO ERECT A STEEL FRAME?
A. Any builder or Owner-builder can use steel frames. The lightweight panels are easily handled and clearly labeled for site erection. In contrast, timber is three times the weight. Roof trusses are also identified , labeled and easily secured to support walls. Ceiling and roof battens are easily fixed to the trusses. There is much less complication than may be initially apparent. In fact, once a builder becomes familiar with using steel frames, he will always appreciate the exactness of the product. There’s never any need to trim to fit, which is often the case when using Timber.
Q. HOW DOES STEEL FRAMING ALLOW FOR THE FOLLOW-ON TRADES-PERSON?
A. All steel frames have studs and plates which have pre-punched holes to make it simple and easy for cable and plumbing installation. In addition, grommets are fitted to protect the cable sheathing and to isolate copper pipes from the steel frames. Thermal expansion and contraction is a slow process within the wall and roof cavity over the period of a day and is generally less intrusive than other conventional building materials.
Q. DOES THE EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION RATE OF STEEL AFFECT PLASTERBOARD?
A. Steel has a similar expansion coefficient with that of plasterboard, which means that incidences of cracking are rare. Q. WILL A STEEL FRAME HOME APPEAR DIFFERENT?
A. In many cases, the answer is yes…they actually look better! Upon close inspection, timber framed dwellings often have ripples or bumps in the ceilings and roofs.
